Birch is a tree of resilience and renewal, of healing and strength.
These are the first fresh leaves we see in spring in our young copse. They are starting the journey of returning the land to woodland.
Birch trees are not only medicinal but they have a host of bright colours, in their bark, leaves and twigs.
The soft rich natural browns and greys of our Shetland fleeces have highlights from a summer spent on the farm, giving it a beautiful depth of colour.
This shawl is very special, and as a hand made piece it is the culmination of a year on the farm, from shearling by hand in spring, to the summer's plant dyes over the fire, and spinning by hand in the long summer evenings.
Both warm and soft, this shawl will get softer with each wash as the wool becomes accustomed to your shoulders. Veins of unspun fleece run through the piece to give it texture.
Hand made means there are irregularities which are part of the beauty of the piece, and there may be a few bits of grass left here and there that have survived the shearing, washing, spinning, washing, weaving, washing, and fulling!
100% natural materials and colour. 100% biodegradable. No plastic, no air miles, no harmful chemicals. All the dyes and washing processes are safe enough to wash in to our willow bed runoff system.
